The Lombardy artist primarily painted wall and ceiling murals in churches and palaces, as well as numerous large-scale oil paintings. He is considered a forerunner of Rococo due tot he dynamic composition of his works.

Carlone’s body of work includes about 700 paintings, bozzetti and drawings, which are now scattered among predominantly private collections. These drafts and sketches should contribute to a reappraisal of Carlone’s art in the late 20th century, restoring the artitst’s reputation.

The Wallraf considers itself lucky to have six works by Carlo Carlone on permanent loan from the collection Dr. Joseph and Maria Matzker, in addition to one work by Sebastiano Ricci (Belluno 1659-1734 Venedig). To mark his fabulous gain, the Wallraf is now putting the new loaned works together on show for a few months only.

Saal 9 Wechselnde Sammlungspräsentation Carlo Carlone –Ölskizzen aus der Zeit des Rokoko27.03.-06.09.2020 Carlo Innocenzo Carlone (Scaria 1686-1775 Scaria) war einer der meistbeschäftigten Maler seiner Zeit, wirkte in Österreich, Deutschland und Italien.
